Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary

FAQs

How do I become a member?

If you are interested in joining one of our Auxiliary Units, please complete our Prospective Membership Form, and a representative of the Auxiliary will contact you to discuss options.

What is a Unit?

Units are groups of members who work on special projects and events together. You can choose to join a Unit based on where you live, the meeting time that matches your schedule, age demographic, etc. Members of units are guided by governing bylaws and standing rules of the organization, and also enjoy special recognitions and benefits of being a member.  Click here to learn about all our Units.

Are there fees associated with joining the Auxiliary?

Units set their own dues, ranging from $35 to $205 annually. All money from dues and events supports the children and families of Rady Children’s.

Can I start my own Unit?

Absolutely! Please indicate your interest in starting a new Unit on your form or by calling our office at 858-966-5887. Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary provides all prospective members with the tools and support needed to start their own Unit.

Do I have to join a Unit based on where I live?

Though many people choose a Unit based on location – close to home or work – it’s not at all required.  In fact, many Units are formed by groups of friends who have similar interests and want to raise funds for Rady Children's.

How much time do I need to commit?  How often do we meet?

The amount of time you commit is up to you and your Unit. Members are generally required to attend monthly meetings and participate in their Unit fundraising events.

Do I need to form my own Foundation or non-profit?

One of the benefits of forming a Unit is that Units fall under the non-profit umbrella of Rady Children's. This convenient structure helps community members avoid navigating complicated and costly processes inherent in creating a separate foundation or non-profit organization.

Do I have to be sponsored by an active Auxilian to become a member of a unit?

Some Units ask for new members to be sponsored. However the majority accept all new members.

Will there be an opportunity for me to interact with the patients of Rady Children's?

Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary raises funds for children and families that they may never meet, and much of the volunteer work is done out in the community, although you may occasionally meet patients and former patients at events. Click here for more information about volunteering at the Hospital.

Is this a women-only Auxiliary?

No, we encourage men to join our Units.

Can I support the Auxiliary without becoming a member?

Yes! The Auxiliary is also a part of the Miracle Makers program. You can also join the Auxiliary as a "Friend" for $50 per year. You will receive updates and event invitations from the Auxiliary, but will not need to actively participate with a Unit.

Can my children become members?

Yes, some units elect to have junior memberships.  Also, children interested in raising funds for Rady Children's can become a Junior Miracle Maker, which is not a unit membership category.
