San Diego Professionals Against Cancer

San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to generating funds for cancer research, patient treatment and services through fund-raising events.

SDPAC is comprised of local area professionals who volunteer their time, energy, and resources to organize local social events. The goals of the organization include raising money for charity, benefiting corporate sponsors, vendors and donors, and creating a source of entertainment for the local community.

The organization first supported Rady Children’s Hospital back in 2000, pledging a donation to name a room. They have since given funds enabling the Hospital to purchase a multitude of equipment; such as remote patient cardiac monitors, Alaris Patient Controlled (PCA) Pumps, PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) Line Ultra Sound, and, most recently, donated $100,000 to our MRI Center.

The new Sharp and Rady Children’s MRI Center – located inside the Acute Care Pavilion – offers families and patients a kid-friendly MRI. The high-tech machine features the CinemaVision system, which enables kids to watch a movie or listen to music during the exam. Studies have shown that entertainment during an MRI scan can soothe anxiety and minimize claustrophobia, leading to faster and better scans. Having the MRI Center onsite enables our physicians to detect where a tumor is located and what organs may be affected by it. Being able to provide early detection of cancer can greatly improve the odds of successful treatment and survival.

Through their fundraising efforts, San Diego Professionals Against Cancer has raised more than $234,000 to date for Rady Children’s Hospital.
