Cox Communications and Cox Cares

Cox Communications and Cox Cares Foundation employees volunteer at the Holiday of Miracles Radiothon.

Cox Communications and its foundation have been long-standing supporters of Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego through its fundraising and volunteer work.

Since 1988, Cox Communications has given more than $1.3 million to Rady Children’s in both in-kind and cash donations. Cox Cares Foundation (formerly Cox Kids Foundation), the company’s philanthropic arm funded entirely by Cox employee payroll donations, which are matched by the company, has given $574,500 of that total.

In 2014, Cox Cares Foundation generously donated $25,000 to Rady Children’s, which is split evenly to purchase a telemedicine robot and sponsor the Safe Routes to School Program through our Center for Healthier Communities, which includes funding Internet safety education.

Telemedicine robots put advanced video teleconferencing technology on wheels, allowing physicians to evaluate patients quickly and from anywhere. Using a laptop, tablet or smartphone, doctors are now able to interact and perform their jobs in ways not previously possible. They can see, hear, be heard and move around in any remote facility, including being able to visually examine patients without being physically present. With satellite locations ranging from 20 minutes to more than an hour away, the telemedicine robots allow Rady Children’s experts to consult on cases in a more timely and efficient manner.

Safe Routes to School is an international program that has been implemented in communities throughout the United States. The goal is to increase the number of children who walk or bike to school safely by funding projects that resolve barriers to walking, such as poor walkways, limited adult supervision or crime. Cox Cares Foundation is helping to bring Internet safety awareness to assist not only with kids walking to school, but with Internet safety education for children, teens and parents.

Cox Communications and Cox Cares Foundation are also a sponsor of the Holiday of Miracles Radiothon on KYXY 96.5, which supports Rady Children’s; they have been a sponsor since the first Radiothon with CBS Radio in 2010. Their employees volunteer at the phone bank during the event as well.  Additionally, during the Holiday of Miracles Campaign, Cox and Cox Cares host a toy drive, where the public can donate toys at their Cox Solutions Stores and employees can donate at their main business locations.

Rady Children’s greatly appreciates Cox Communications and the dedicated employees who support the Cox Cares Foundation.  We are honored to have their continued support.
