MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technology provides doctors with amazing views inside the human body. It is also very expensive; a single MRI machine can cost as much as $3.5 million.

Recognizing the importance of this vital technology, the Ledcor Foundation, the charitable organization of The Ledcor Group of Companies, matched fifty percent of the project cost up to $1.2 million toward the purchase of a cardiac capable MRI at Rady Children’s. The remaining 50 percent of the project cost was matched by new contributions or capital funding by Rady Children’s. Ledcor’s generosity made it possible for Rady Children’s to purchase its first MRI and was open to patients in June 2011.

“Part of Ledcor’s corporate culture is to provide support to the various communities in which we operate, “said Jimmy Byrd, President of Ledcor Construction Inc. and Ledcor Technical Services, whose U.S. head office is located in San Diego. “We have a vested interest in the health and well-being of children within our community, and are proud to be able to advance their level of medical care and treatment through this new MRI technology at Rady Children’s.”

In addition to aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of medical conditions, the MRI equipment allows doctors to focus on vital cardiac care and treatment.

The Ledcor Group of Companies’ dedication and support didn’t just end there. After their pledge for the MRI was complete, Ledcor’s employees continued to support Rady Children’s by participating in the SeaWorld Shamu and You Walk for Rady Children’s, toy drives at holiday parties, sponsoring gala tables, and employees serving as gala chairs during the 2010 and 2011 Miracle Makers Gala. In addition, The Ledcor Group of Companies recently hosted a successful United Way employee-driven fundraising campaign, in which the company matched employee contributions, to benefit Rady Children’s Brain Lab System.

Continuing in this partnership to enhance children’s medical care, The Ledcor Group of Companies and Rady Children’s are now discussing the next project to focus their combined efforts.
