Small Gifts Make a Huge Impact at Rady Children’s

It’s amazing how just a few dollars can add up.

In 2010, employees of Toyota San Diego began making small deductions of $1 to $5 from their paychecks each payday. Over the years, the donations have grown substantially.

In fact, after the dealership saw just how dedicated their employees were to helping Rady Children’s, they began to match employee donations. Dave Conant, owner of The Auto Group, matches employee contributions through the Conant Family Foundation. In 2012, Toyota’s corporate office began the “Toyota Dealer Match Program,” matching up to $10,000 of the employees/dealership donation.

“This combined effort has allowed us to increase our giving over the years,” says Bernie Perri, General Manager of Toyota San Diego. “It all starts from the generosity of our employees and grows from there,” he said.

What does it all add up to for Rady Children’s? Ongoing support for important patient programs and a place to turn for reliable vehicles for the Hospital. In 2010 Toyota employees supported the purchase of the Hospital’s new MRI, the GE Discovery MR450, with a CinemaVision system that lets kids watch a movie or listen to music during their MRI, making the experience much less scary for kids.

You’re also likely to see many Toyota Sienna vans serving our patients and their families - thanks to Toyota San Diego. With donations from Toyota San Diego, The HomeCare program recently purchased its second van as they expand home healthcare services to Orange County. And the Chadwick Center, with the help of the Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, is able to transport patients to and from campus to receive care. The Security and Operations departments share a van to keep our families safe and provide support to 40 satellite locations.

And when the wheels hit the road, Toyota keeps on giving. Toyota San Diego also supports A.J.’s Kids Crane, the largest third party toy drive to benefit Rady Children’s by hosting a toy drive at the dealership.

Small gifts do add up to make a huge impact—thank you Toyota San Diego, its employees and supporting partners.
