What is an In-Kind Donation?

For many of our donors, the most satisfying gift is one that you purchase yourself and give to the Hospital.

Because the health of our patients always comes first, Rady Children’s can only give brand-new toys and games to patients.

What we can accept

Our goal is to align your donations with our needs. Due to our limited storage and specific patient needs, we ask donors to choose items listed on our wishlist.

Donations can be dropped off at the hospital, 3020 Children's Way, San Diego, CA 92123.

Our donation bin is available 24/7 in the Rose Pavilion main lobby, just outside the gift shop. Simply pull up to the valet and let the attendant know you are dropping off donations. The information desk will provide you with a tax receipt and direct you to the bin. Once or twice a week, Foundation staff will stop by to collect the toys and bring them to our Toy Room, where toys are hand-picked for patients.

If you require assistance with your donation drop-off, or if your donation is a very large quantity of items, please call the Foundation at 858-966-7878 and a representative will schedule a time to meet with you. Thank you!

You can also donate cash and gift cards for Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego to purchase items most needed for our current patients. Click here to make a donation to our Toy Fund.

Please note: In the hospital, infection is always a risk. In order to protect our patients, all toys and donated items must be new. Also, due to patient confidentiality and infection control, donors are not able to deliver gifts or give parties for our patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are donated toys and/or supplies used in the hospital?

Although our patients receive gifts during the holidays and for their birthdays, many of the donated items are given as rewards following a painful procedure or are used in our playrooms and at the patient’s bedside throughout the year.

Where, when and how do I deliver my donation?

DONATION DAYS/TIMES: Our donation bin is available 24/7. Appointments may also be made with a Foundation staff member when assistance is required, or in the event that a donation is very large in quantity of items.
LOCATION: 3020 Children’s Way, San Diego, CA 92123 - Main lobby of the Rose Pavilion.
Tax receipts are available at the information desk upon request.

What donations are most helpful?

Gift cards (Target, Walmart and iTunes) are most popular. This allows us to purchase specific items for our patients, and alleviates the need for storage space.

Do you only need toys during the holidays?

Although we receive the majority of our toys during the month of December, we need toys all year long. We strongly encourage donors to consider purchasing toys throughout the year to ensure the toy room is stocked.

Do you accept gently used toys?

We are unable to accept used items due to infection control and the safety of our patients.

Are donations tax deductible?

Donations can be receipted for tax purposes. If you deliver your donation to the information desk, please complete the “In-Kind Donation Form” and keep the yellow copy for your records. You will also receive a “Thank You” letter from Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego.

May I deliver my gift directly to the patients?

Due to patient confidentiality and infection control, the public is not permitted to visit our patients.

Will someone pick up my donation?

May I donate sporting or other event tickets to patients and families?

We welcome ticket donations at least one week prior to the event. The Child Life Department will distribute the tickets to the families. Please call 858-966-8161 to make arrangements.

May I come perform for the patients?

Due to hospital policy, we only allow groups over the age of 18 to perform. If you are interested, please review our Special Visit Guidelines and complete our Special Visit Request Form.
